VISIT PARAK PROVINCE: VISIT GUA TEMPURUNG & KUALA KANGSA
Located in the province of Parak, nearly 2 hours south of Penang is Gua Tempurung, the biggest limestone cave in Malaysia. Stretching for 1.9 kilometres, the cave is made up of five gigantic domes. Inside each dome are different limestone and marble structures that create gigantic stalagmites that literally have to be seen to be believed due to their sheer size and scale.
Convenient walkways and platforms have been built within some parts of the caves making it easy for visitors to leisurely stroll while taking in the breathtaking beauty of the awe-inspiring stalagmites, underground waterfalls and breath taking 10,000 year-old rock formations. Various tours are offered inside the caves that cater to different fitness and interest levels.
Next stop is lunch at Kuala Kangsar; a well preserved old Royal Town before we take the dizzying, maze-like road up to Kellie’s Castle, perched on top of a hill in what used to be a rubber estate. This pre-war ruin blends Hindu, Moorish and Dutch influence with a fascinating and mystical history – some say the castle is haunted!
The last stage of this tour takes you to the majestic Ubudiah Mosque which was built in 1917 and remains the most beautiful mosque in the country, followed by the Royal Palace of Perak, before we journey back to Penang.
